Northern Culture Museum

Located in Somi (Yokogoshi district)、 the Northern Culture Museum is the well-known mansion of a wealthy farming family.
Built on a vast site、 this 65-room mansion has an area of nearly 4,000 square meters. It also has a unique triangular tea house with triangular pillars、 tatami mats、 and furniture. A collection of antique works of art、 a beautifully maintained Japanese garden、 and a tea arbor can also be found on the premises. In the spring、 cherry blossoms、 wisteria、 and tree peonies grace the gardens、 while verdant leaves、 azaleas、 and irises can be seen in the summer. The vivid foliage of fall and the pure snow in the winter can also be enjoyed in this elegant setting that is beautiful any time of year. Restaurants and a local sake shop are also located nearby.
Currently、 the Ito family that owned this house is in its 8th generation. In the heyday of their 250-year-long history、 the Ito family had about 1,370 hectares of land holdings in over 60 towns and villages、 four counties、 and one city. The museum attracts countless visitors from around the country.
