History of Konan Ward

People have lived in Konan Ward since prehistoric times、 mostly in what was still an area of low sand dunes. As a result、 countless artifacts from thousands of years ago have been discovered here.
The Kameda area、 of which Konan Ward is a part、 is surrounded by the Shinano、 Agano、 and Koagano rivers、 and much of the land in this area lies below sea level. When heavy rains caused the rivers to swell and made water collect in the fields、 the levees often broke and unleashed devastating floods.
Since the dawn of history、 though、 people have tried to decrease flood damages by working on river improvement projects and developing a system of cooperation between local communities. In modern times、 ongoing efforts have been made to maintain drainage pumps and to improve the land、 and now the area is a vast expanse of fertile farmland producing abundant varieties of agricultural and livestock products.
In addition to agricultural、 the area's commerce、 manufacturing industry、 and transportation networks have also developed over time、 allowing for continuous population growth and housing development in Konan Ward.

This fukabachigata-style earthen vessel was excavated from the Sasayama-mae site. The vessel dates from the Jomon period (about 6,500 years ago).

The new Oyamatsu Drainage Pump Statio was completed in 2007.

The street near Kameda Station is lined with businesses.
