Notice on COVID-19 Vaccination (for people who live in Niigata City)

About the Vaccination

This vaccine is available free of charge for anyone at least 5 years oldwho wishes to receive it.

  • Based on the national government’s implementation policy for the COVID-19 booster shot, Niigata City also is making 3rd and 4th doses of COVID-19 vaccines available.

About the 1st / 2nd Dose of the COVID-19 Vaccines

People who do not have a vaccine coupon (接種券/せっしゅけん) cannot get the vaccine.

When your vaccine coupon arrives in the mail, make sure to keep it safe. If you lose it, you will have to have another coupon issued.

  • Vaccination coupons were sent to everyone .
  • People who turn 5 years old this fiscal year will be sent their vaccination coupon within one week after their birthday.
  • If you have not received your coupon when you should have, call or email the call center.

It is necessary to get 2 doses of the vaccine.

Get the second dose as soon as possible.

  • Pfizer: 3 weeks (21 days) after the first dose
  • Moderna: 4 weeks (28 days) after the first dose

3. Decide where to get your vaccine

- Choose between A and B

A. Get vaccinated at a hospital or clinic in Niigata City

B. Get vaccinated at a vaccination site

4. Make an appointment

- You cannot get a vaccine without an appointment.

A. Hospital/Clinic

Make a vaccination appointment with the hospital or clinic directly.

B. Vaccination Site

There are 2 ways to make an appointment:
1. Online, using the appointment website
(Available in Japanese only. Try to have someone who can understand Japanese help you fill out the form if you need support.)

2. Niigata City Coronavirus Vaccine Call Center TEL: 025-250-1234
Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (everyday, including weekends and holidays)
(Try to have someone who can speak Japanese help you call if you need support.)

5. Get vaccinated

- Go to the location at the time of your appointment. Do not forget to bring the following 3 items.
1. Vaccination coupon (接種券/せっしゅけん)
2. A form of identification (one of the following)
Driver’s license, passport, residence card, health insurance card, special permanent resident certificate, My Number Card, etc.
3. Prevaccination Screening Questionnaire
For questionnaires in English or other languages, use the translation as reference as you fill out the Japanese form (in Japanese as much as possible).

  • Children ages 12-15 must be accompanied by a guardian when getting vaccinated.
  • Try to have someone who speaks Japanese help you get your vaccine appointment and come with you to get vaccinated.
  • If you need an interpreter, call or e-mail the call center in advance.

6. Get the 2nd dose of the vaccine

  • It is necessary to get the 2nd dose of the vaccine as soon as possible 3 weeks (Pfizer) or 4 weeks (Moderna) after the 1st dose.
  • You do not need to schedule your 2nd dose. When you get your first dose, you will be told when your next appointment will be.

7.Get the 3rd dose of the vaccine

A booster shot (3rd dose) will be available because the effectiveness of the 2nd dose of a COVID-19 vaccine decreases as time passes.
